Spring is Coming!

I'm so excited...Sept 1st is the first day of spring, and it's definately starting to show!

I had to work all weekend, and everyday it was soo nice outside and I was worried that by Monday( my day off) the nice weather would be over, but it was a beautiful 25 degrees!! On Saterday night after work Conor, Ally and I went down to Port Melbourne (which is where the cruises leave from and the Spirit of Tasmania and had dinner at a pub, and then we went to docklands which is anther waterfront place, for a yummy hot chocolate.

Monday Conor and I went to The Art Gallery and just hung around the city, walked to his school for a bit - it was just a really nice day!

I'm very happy because of the nice weather and how awesome the job situtation has turned out...all in all it's lookin good!

I'm so glad I got out of Sumo...

Well I'm still very happy with my jobs, first week over!

I'm also glad I got out of Sumo before the new owners took over, because things are crazy there - they fired the manager at the other shop today (don't really know why) and one girl who used to work mornings 730-2 got her shifts cut to 730-930 (2 hours!!!) and they didn't give her any other option (like to do a couple of those and a couple of longer afternoon shifts), so she had no choice but to quit.

The last week I was there I hired a girl from Canada (grew up in Chilliwack!) and she quit too because they cut her shifts...so I'm glad I'm gone!

Anyways, gonna go enjoy an afternoon off!

That's right - it was a few months ago now, but we decided to throw a "Christmas in June" party, because winter just isn't the same without Christmas festivities.

We had lots of food, and played "yankee swap" where everyone brings a gift and they all get put in the middle, and the first person opens one then the next person can steal theirs or open a new one and so on. Very fun!!

So all of the animals were really cool - we got to go in a safari vehicle through the zoo and beside the giraffes and zebras, the hippos, the rhinos, etc.

And then there was this one part where you are separated by the cheetahs just by a sheet of glass, so that's how we got the really close up shot of the cheetah!

Well we've gone to yet another zoo...this one was an open range one, with some Aussie animals, but more african and BIG animals

We had decided to go on Saterday with Ally (our regular adventure buddy), but when I woke up it was POURING! So I called her to say we shouldn't go and she was just gonna come over for a cuppa - but then by the time we were going to go in the first place had come, it had cleared up and was really nice...so we went anyways...

New job(s)

So my last three weeks went pretty smoothly – I tried my hardest to have everything ready to go for whoever ended up taking over for me (which turned out to be the girl that I had been sharing the managerial role with prior to my being the sole manager) – but since the new-coming owners weren’t really the owners yet they couldn’t exactly hire here, but the current owners weren’t really looking for anyone else – so by the time they had arranged with her to work she wasn’t able to fill my shift completely – so now the current owner is having to go in and help close…but it’s not my problem anymore!

I’ve worked two days at the bookshop and it’s gone really well! The other people working there all seem really nice and helpful and the customers understand when I tell them that I’m new when they have questions and have to get someone else to help me…so that’s all good. It’s is SOOO nice getting to wear normal clothes to work, and to come home and not be physically tired and gross and have really dry hands from all the dishes.

I feel like I’m catching on pretty quickly, but for all I know I haven’t absorbed anything! Hehe – we’ll see! So I work again tomorrow and then 8-noon Thursday at the coffee shop (Bite) after which time I will be updating this website and then Friday 1-7 at the bookshop, Saterday off and then my first Sunday shift.

Note of interest: Australia celebrates the Feast of the Assumption (Aug 15) as a Holy day of obligation – so tomorrow should be busy.

The parish (St Francis) is the main “city-goers” parish so it has a few daily masses and A LOT of Sunday masses (nearly have half hour – 45 minutes) so the peak sales times end up being just before and just after masses…and during the weekdays during lunch hours obviously.

Yeah, so I like it – I’m very happy to be out of Sumo, but it still feels somewhat surreal because I’m working right up the road I feel like I should be there, working…but am very glad that I’m not!

I did my first day the the coffee shop today and it went really well! I didn't actually make any coffee but worked the till and got to see some of my old customers from Sumo and gave Paul and Rachel a little present I got for the baby (we went to the zoo on Sat and I bought a little box set there that had a onesie, rattle, bib and hat with a hippo on it! so cute!)

Here are 8 random FAQs about me (sorry if some are lame - I'm bad at these)

1. I took math 12 twice, and sat the provincial exam three times (even though I had an A after the first time)
2. As a kid I watched Aladdin so much I wore out the tape
3. I used to be in a "punk" type band - but only played 3 shows - it was called The Progressive Thinker
4. I didn't (to my knowledge) eat FISH until this year - not that you can call what I did "eating" it, trying it maybe
5. On the same lines I didn't really "drink" any alcohol until a few years ago - late bloomer!
6. I'm afraid of heights under water - well I guess that means I'm afraid of depths...we used to go to cultus and swim out to the buoys and I would look down as see the chain disappear into the depths and that would scare me!
7. I used to be terrified in public washrooms that the toilet would overflow after I flushed it so I would always wait until I was pretty much opening the stall door to flush!
8. I like to talk (big shock) and I used to - not so much anymore - come out with really random comments and stories, and alot of times I would have already started telling them in my head and would tell people the second half, which made it even more confusing, and then I would just trail off without....
