Sick again

On Wednesday I noticed that Finn was coughing a bit, but just thought/hoped it was a "teething" cough from all the saliva. He went to bed at 830pm and woke up at 1130pm to eat, but would not go back to bed. I ended up holding him all night in bed, where I woke up every time he moved. He woke up another time to eat, so I fed him, and then after his 5am feeding I just got so frustrated, so Conor took him upstairs and fell asleep with him up there. It was the worst night BY FAR that we had with him since his first night home.

Thursday was a tiring day, because I had gotten maybe 2.5 hours sleep at night, and he didn't want to be put down much. Luckily I got to nap with him when he napped (mainly because I again had to hold him, he wouldn't go in his crib). Then last night I was expecting the worst...we had choir practice, and afterwards he fell asleep in grandpas arm, so I put him in his crib, where he slept for about 10 minutes and started doing the same thing as the night before. So at 930pm I decided to change and feed him (even though it wasn't really feeding time).

I just had on the small lamp beside the bed, so I couldn't really see while I was changing him, but I went to take off the diaper cover and got poo all over my hand!!! I didn't realize he had gone (exploded really) and I didn't have any wipes in the container, so I had to call Conor to come help me...in that time Finn had put his hand in it, and got it all over his sleepers and the change pad...sooo annoying. So we eventually just gave him a second bath, I bathed him, fed him, put him into his crib (while crossing my fingers, praying he would go to sleep so I could clean up after his mess).

Conor stayed downstairs while I started laundry, etc...and when I came back down Finn was still sleeping in his crib. I was so thankful, I promptly fell asleep...the next time I woke up was to Finn at 6am!!!! He slept through the night (which he hadn't been doing for awhile) even though he was sick!!

Am I the only one that cannot get shoes or slippers to stay on his feet? My sister-in-law told me that Gap socks were the only ones that stay on...I almost lost one walking to the bank from superstore...and then those shoes (they are 6-9 months) fit, but slid off...and these other slippers that I have don't even stay on for 2 seconds!

I guess he'll just have to go barefoot!

Sweeney Zoo

Let me first point out that my family had a dog once, that we got for Christmas the year I was in grade 2, and we only had it for maybe a couple of months. Then when I was in grade 7, two of my brothers bought me some gold-fish...all I did was feed them, Dan and Mom cleaned the bowl!

That being said, I don't think I'm much of an animal person. You know people who aren't baby people, when they hold a baby it's really awkward, or they just kinda pat the kids head...I'm like that with animals. I don't know how to pick up cats, so I usually just grab a pillow and try to push them off whatever surface they are on!

I love living here at the Sweeney house, and I think I'm getting more used to all the animals, so I thought I would do a full post dedicated to the "Sweeney Zoo".

1. Chester the dog - approx 2 years old. Likes to lick! (especially the babies head, and sometimes even his lips, yuck!) Likes to shed. Has his own couch. Oh, and don't eat toast around him, he will not leave you alone until he's had a bite AND licked your plate!

2. Robert the cat - my favorite of the cats.

3. Basil the cat - very skittish! Can be seen running away from people.

4. Kiku the cat - he's the itchy one. He'll rub up against anything to have a scratch. Has red eyes. Likes to bask in anything hot...the vent in the bathroom, the coffee table, moms side table. He wants the space all to himself, so he will slowly push of anything that's on the table. Also enjoys rubbing up against your legs while you try to go to the bathroom. And DEFINITELY the loudest cat.

5. Seal the cat - the fat one. He doesn't like to use the cat door - so he will follow you to whatever door you are closest to, so you can let him out.

6. Alessa the horse - the mom. Doesn't ride anymore.

7. Shalom the horse - Megans horse.

8. Pippin the rabbit - Sonyas rabbit. I always forget about this guy, cuz he stays out on the porch.

9. Some roosters and chickens - the source of our eggs.

This is the typical scene around dinner time - "the animals are gathering". The other two cats are just behind me as I take this picture. One day I went the whole day without seeing a single cat, and then sure enough, just before dinner, they all gather around the laundry room door for food.

So tired!

I was just sending an email, and Finn was laying on his playmat. He was fussing alot, but not crying...so I was just finishing up the email and then I was going to put him in his crib to nap. I realized that I didn't hear him anymore, looked down, and he had fallen asleep! hehe...what a cutie!

Finn's Favorite Book

When Finnian was about a month old, I went up to the Mt Lehman Library to get a DVD I had ordered, and the lady gave him this book and said I could keep it for a couple of months or so (it wasn't a book to actually sign out). I kept forgetting to bring it back, and he really enjoyed the book. I looked around for a copy to buy, but couldn't find one...I even thought of asking them if I could purchase it, because on the website they actually had quite a few copys that they loan out.

Anyways, I decided to just take it back and get some other books while I was at it - when I handed it back to the lady and apologized for not returning it sooner, she said I could keep it! Yay...so without further ado...

I pushed aside some twigs.

I looked - what did I see?

First I saw ten wiggling toes,

And then the rest of me!

It's getting funner

I can't believe how much Finn has changed just in the last few days.

Lately, if he is lying on his back and I put an object on his stomach, he will put his hands together around it. Usually it then just falls on the ground, but he's starting to get it.

One of the toys on his little rocking chair, an elephant, comes off...so I have been using that to get him to grab at it...but he wouldn't grab it if it was in the air...just if it was at his waist.

Anyways, this morning while I was eating breakfast, he was in the chair on the table and I looked up and he was grabbing at the elephant while it was hanging on the crossbar!

It was so fun for me to watch, I could see the little wheels turning in his head. He would lift his hands up, and usually get it with his right hand first (either because he's going to be right handed, or because it was closer to that hand) and then once he hit it, or pushed it, he would put his hand into his mouth! Haha, I can see already that EVERYTHING is going to be going into the mouth.

I'll try to catch it on video if he does it tomorrow!

Easter Weekend

I hope everyone had a good Easter, I did, but it was a bit tiring! We went to church on Thursday night, Friday afternoon and the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening. Finn isn't the best church-goer of all time, we usually have to stand at the back foyer with him for at least half the service! Part of the time he is happy to lie on the ground and kick around, the rest of the time is spent walking around with him while trying to listen to some of the readings and the homily.

After two days in a row of this, I decided the Vigil was going to be WAY to late and long to handle with him, since it started at 9:30 pm. We had my families Easter Dinner that night, so we set up the playpen in the spare room, and put Finn to bed...the plan was that if he was sleeping fine, I would stay the night and Conor would have a night off! (Not that he ever is too affected by Finn's night feedings anyways). The vigil was beautiful...the church that we go to is currently being held in an elementary school gym, but it just goes to show that you don't have to be in the fanciest churches to experience the full mass. It just seemed as though everyone there was really, I don't know how to put it, but they all seemed to be really "present"...singing along, focusing...maybe it was because there were less little kids! haha, that thought just passed my mind.

Anyways, there were also two young children getting baptised, I love baptisms, so that also helped make it a special night. They were so cute...when responding to Father George during the creed they would say "I do" each time, the little boy first, and then his little sister, it was cute! And then the best part was when they were having the water poured over their heads, the little girl giggled each time (three times, for the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit) it was adorable!

I had my phone on vibrate in case Finn woke up to feed...just as I was getting to my car (11:30pm) mom phoned, she had given him his soother a few times, but the last time he started crying alot, and she didn't want him to get too worked up in case he didn't go back to sleep afterwards. Mom lives right up the road from the church so I got home quickly, fed him, put him to bed, and was in bed myself around midnight. And thankfully Finn was no worse at moms then he is here, so we had our first sleepover!

My mom was happy to be able to play with him in the morning - he's happiest then, so I'm glad she got to see him.

On Sunday I headed back home around 10ish, and then just hung out with the family until we went to Auntie Kas's for the Sweeney Easter Dinner.

We got back at 930pm, I fed the baby and went right to bed myself! It was a pretty tiring weekend :) Now I think I'm all caught up on sleep until the next weekend comes!

Happy Easter

For the last couple years Christmas and Easter have kind of bothered me - well, more the way people "celebrate" Christmas and Easter. I know it's cute to get pictures taken with Santa and such - and I still have mine from when I was a kid, and I'm glad I have them - but people just take those things too far and forget what the real reason for these seasons are.

So in the midst of the bunny and the candy and the chocolate, I wish everyone a very Happy Easter, and to remind them that Christ died for us so that we can be free from our sins and free to worship him completely.

4 month pics

Yesterday was sooo nice...I went to superstore and got Finnian a little bucket hat and some SPF 60 sunscreen! I think he enjoyed having his clothes off and feeling the light breeze outside!

Yes he is a boy, and he is secure in his masculinity to wear pink diaper covers! haha

Today Finn got his 4 month shots, he did great! He didn't cry as much as last time, much to my relief. He is 25 inches long and 16 pounds 12 ounces!! I didn't realize he was that big, he must have really had a growth spurt this last week, with all these extra night feedings!

Okay, fussy boy is calling for me!

4 months old!!

Wow - I can't believe Finnian is 4 months old today!

I bought him some baby sunscreen today - yay for SPF 60! haha and a little sun hat for when it's sunny...like right now. We went for a bit of a walk, but I was getting to hot so we headed back home. I put him on a pile of clothes on my bed while I put on some shorts. I was going to bring him outside in the shade and read and let him kick around, but when I turned around to get him he was fast asleep - and still is! So now I blog!

Finn is getting better at letting me leave him on the ground for longer periods of time, so I'm taking full advantage of it. I think especially after the hot weather we had yesterday, he gets really warm if everyone holds him. He's starting to look like he wants to turn over from back to front, he wiggles and twists around...very cute! He's also doing so much better with tummy time! I don't have to put a pillow under his armpits anymore to make him lift his head up....but he still prefers to suck on his hand when he's on his tummy and they are right there infront of him!

We had a busy weekend. Finn's Auntie Sonya, who is living in Ottawa, was here to sing St Matthew's Passion for the Handel Society, so it was nice to see her again! On Saterday night she was singing, but it was also a cousins birthday that night. Since I knew I couldn't leave Finn long enough to go to the concert (and certainly couldn't bring him) then I decided to go to the cousins birthday dinner and Conor stayed home with him.

Then the BIG day, Sunday. The family sang at the 9am service at church, followed by the usual Sunday breakfast, but since Papa (Conor's sweeney grandfather) has his birthday tomorrow, it was a bit of a birthday do as well. Then in the afternoon my friend Melissa's daughter, Jordana, was having her 1st birthday party, so Finn and I headed to Langely for that. THEN my Uncle Derek and Aunt Esther were down from Prince George to find a used 5th wheel (my Uncle just retired and they are going across Canada!!) so we had a farewell thing for them in the evening. It was a LONG day...but Finn did really well. At Jordana's birthday I hardly had to hold him at all - lots of people around that wanted to hold him...and then when he wasn't being held and since it was hot out, I think he was happy to just kick around on the ground by himself (especially after I took off all his clothes but his onesie!)

Anyways, gonna go get some more stuff done while he sleeps so well!

Oh how I miss you...

Sleep, that is....I miss sleep!



I don't know if it's teething or what, but Finn has not been sleeping as nicely as he had been...last night we had a very difficult time getting him to bed (when the two nights before we went to bed really nicely at 730). We didn't get him into bed until 1030pm. Then he was awake at 1230 and then nearly every hour after that.

I'm so not used to that, I didn't know what to do. So I tried his soother, and a few times that worked...otherwise I would feed him, even if I had just fed him an hour ago. It was a LONG night. To make matters worse, Conor started work yesterday and was working today as well. So just knowing that after this long night I would have Finn all day, it just made it tough.

I know I've had it sooo easy...living at my in-laws and Conor being home nearly every day (and when he was out, it was just for class, so maybe 3 hours at the most)...but it's a shock to the system!

At least he had a 40 min nap this morning, so I slept a bit too, and hopefully he'll have a few more naps.
