Finnian the Fat

We had our 3 week appointment today, and if the wet and dirty diapers weren't proof enough that the breastfeeding was going well, the fact that he now weighs 9 pounds 10 ounces should be! What a little porker! hehe

We are all doing pretty well. We've all had colds, including Finn, which means the already somewhat fussy nights are a little fussier. The night before last he slept from 12-330 and then stirred and fussed the rest of the night. Then last night he fussed from sometime in the evening until just past midnight when I finally got him to sleep, and then he fed twice in the night and was able to get him to sleep fairly quickly after each feeding.

My favorite thing that Finn does right now is this little "coo"/"sigh" sound after sneezing. He usually does about two sneezes, and then gears up for one more, but it doesn't come out, and instead he kinda sighs. It is SERIOUSLY the cutest thing in the whole world. Everytime he does one sneeze I run over to see if he'll do the sigh thing, it doesn't happen everytime though.

I really do love that we have all this snow for Christmas...but I hope it doesn't ruin all out plans!

Tonight, Christmas Eve, is to be spent at my moms house, with our immediate family,eating dinner and opening presents...then off to midnight mass up the road.

Then back to Conor's house where we will open presents Christmas morning (or whenever everyone wakes up)...and then we have to decide if we will do Christmas dinner at Conor's house with his immediate family, or at my mom's house with a few extended family.

Then boxing day dinner with Sweeney extended family at Grannie and Papas...should be great!! (if we don't get stuck anywhere!)

Good news

This afternoon Finn and I got to venture out into the snow. I had to go to the bank and fill out some paperwork to put me on maternity leave, so I brought Finnian in to show him off to everyone.

Then we headed to the hospital to get the ultrasound done for Finn....Good news: It's not a hernia, just some excess fluid. The doctor was really nice, I wasn't sure if they would tell me the results right there or if I would have to wait for my doctor to call, but he did the scan and pointed everything out on the screen for us. Not sure what happens now, he said that if we haven't noticed the swelling go down then we should go back in in a couple of months for a follow up, then I guess they drain it if it's still swollen. Finn did really well! He didn't cry at all, AND he didn't pee all over the place! (I'm sure the doctor was thankful for that as well - as Finnian was aimed right at him!)

Tonight I'm left at home on my own since everyone is heading out for dress rehearsal for the Christmas Concert tomorrow. I think I'll have a nap!

After posting yesterday about Finnian having fussy time at around midnight everynight, he had a fuss free night last night! It was great!!

Conor's family have a Christmas Concert coming on Saterday, so everyone was over to practice yesterday, and after I was done feeding Finn, we came upstairs and I sat in the recliner rocking chair with him on my chest and just rocked him...his eyes were open the whole time, but he was just so calm...it was great mommy/baby time!

He's definately having more awake time the last couple of days...today he was awake the whole time between two feedings, which I don't think has happened before. And for the most part he was calm and wasn't crying, but I gave him the soother near the end.

I don't want to just be putting up pictures of him asleep, so as he's awake more, I'll take more pictures to put up!

It's Beginning to look alot like Christmas!

Well it is snowing like a madman outside!! It's so nice to look at - although I haven't ventured out yet.

Baby Finnian is doing well, and starting to get some sort of day/night pattern. Unfortunately that pattern involves being very difficult at around midnight for the past 3 nights! haha. But then after he finally goes to sleep, he wakes up twice in the night for feeding and usually goes right to sleep afterwards, which makes Mommy very happy!!

At Conor's cousins house, a couple of blocks away, they have a pond that freezes over enough to be able to actually skate on. So yesterday afternoon Conor and his siblings went and bought some cheap new ice skates. Right now they are over at the cousins testing them out! And it continues to snow and snow.

I was feeling a bit antsy yesterday, Conor has gotten to go out a few times, but I've only left the house twice, to go to the doctor...so I needed to get out of the house. Plus I had left all my pre-maternity clothes at moms house, and since I'm pretty much back to my pre-pregnancy weight, I needed some clothes! So yesterday evening we took Finn over to Grandmas house, his first time there. Mom was pretty excited, she gave Finnian a tour! haha. And it's a good thing we went yesterday, because the snow is not letting up here.

Doctors appointment went pretty well on Monday. Finn is up to 7 pounds 7.5 ounces! He was down to 6 pounds 10 ounces when we left the hospital, so he's doing well in the weight gaining. The doctor was a little concerned, however, about one of his testicles still being a bit big. And he said it didn't feel like it was just fluid filling it, so he's set up an appointment for us to have an ultrasound done to make sure that his intestines haven't slipped in there (a type of hernia) He's kind of a new doctor so I'm hoping he's just being extra cautious and that nothing is actually wrong...cross your fingers!!

Anyways, Conor just got back from skating, time to go!

Oh what a night!

Well last night was actually pretty darn good.

Finn didn't do any of his frantic snort-crying. He was feeding pretty good. Conor was able to get him to sleep fairly easily...and then he was sleeping longer stretches.

The only thing that was annoying was that he's so small that when he pees alot it gets his clothes all wet, so then I have to change him every time.

So then when I woke up this morning to change at feed him at about 9 ( yay, I slept til 9!! ) I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't have to change his clothes, just his diaper. So as I was changing his diaper he sprayed POO ALL OVER ME!!!

Then, to make matters worse, as I was trying to clean up the poo a bit, he started peeing all of the comforter!

UGH!! Worst morning ever...now I'm really grumpy.

Also, this other annoying thing that he has started doing when nursing is keeping latched on and wrenching his head all around while pulling on me...it HURTS!

Conor took him out for a walk the other day...this is a hug-a-bub that a friend in Australia gave us...Finn was nice and snug

Okay, that's my venting for the day! One week old and his night habits are becoming better, so I guess I have to be thankful for that!

** I'm adding this part on, because the day is going much better now!! and I don't like ending things so negatively. Finn fed really well this afternoon, my brother came by for a visit, Conor's happy cuz he's out at the golf course right now, and I had a nice shower. I'm really starting to feel more like myself now. It's hard with the stitches and lack of sleep to feel like today isn't blending in with yesterday...but I'm starting to be able to do more stuff (putting away laundry, etc) and my stitches are healing up pretty well as far as I can tell.

So yes, now I'm happy...and hopefully soon I will have some more flattering pics of myself and my baby! haha...and not ones that look like I just gave birth to him or just woke up!

What's in a Name

Everyone has been asking why we chose Finnian Benedict...so here it is.

Firstly, since the mother seems to always name the baby, I really wanted Conor to find a name he liked (not to mention we were having a really really hard time picking possible boy names).

Anyways, it seemed that we had two girls named picked out right away and NO boy names.

Then Conor was reading a book by an Author he likes, William T Cavanaugh, and in the preface he mentions one of his sons name Finnian, so Conor asked me what I thought and I liked it.

We did have a back up just in case, but I'm not going to say what it is, in case we use it in the future :)

Then the middle name was easy: Benedict, after Pope Benedict.

The reason for this was that the first time I felt the baby kicking was at World Youth Day. I had felt it one day, but hadn't realized it was a baby kick until after it was over...so the first time I felt it and KNEW it was the baby, was while Pope Benedict was talking...and all weekend it seemed whenever he was talking the baby was going crazy.

Let the Induction Begin

Well we went in about 7:30 am on Sat morning and started the process. I don't think I started "the drip" (induction) until 20 to 9. It was rather boring there, doing nothing.

I didn't like having the IV put in, but I survived! hehe. I started getting Braxton Hicks contractions, but no painful ones. After a couple of hours we all thought that maybe I would turn out like my Grandma and Mother, and have "painless childbirthes".

That was until around 12:30 noon I felt my first contraction, and it was NOT fun. I just looked at Conor with this look of horror on my face and said "I didn't like that....I don't think I'm going to like this"

Then I started crying...and then laughing, nervous laughter, realizing that I really was going to have this baby that day.Well the contractions came on regular, hard, strong, fast...what else can I say to describe it...painful! We decided that I would try laughing gas....I knew epidural would be my last option, because I didn't really want it...and I wanted to stay away from the other pain killers as well, because they can affect the baby.

So she got my the laughing gas and I got to use it with each contraction...from then on in, I would NOT give up that mask! The contractions were still as strong, and I still felt them...but it seemed to make time go by soo much faster. I started worrying that the contractions had slowed down, because they only felt like 20 seconds long...so I asked the nurse and she said that they were at least 60 seconds. At one point Conor left to go to the bathroom and I had a contraction...I told him he was NOT allowed to leave again! I kept thinking we should call our parents and tell them it was happening, but the contractions were just too close together for that.

Anyways, she checked me at I'd say 1:30 although it was probably later, I was pretty out of it, and I guess I was quite dilated, but then she wanted to move it along a bit, so she got me to get on my knees and lean over the back of the bed....that was HORRIBLE! and a contraction came before they got the laughing gas to me...I thought I was going to die.

It actually must have been closer to 2 at that point, because I think I started pushing shortly afterwards. I did a couple contractions of pushing with the nurse, and then the doctor got there and it was in full swing!

As you know, at 2:32 pm Finnian was born...which means I only laboured for 2 hours! It was amazing though...I seriously thought I wasn't going to make it. And when the nurse got me to go on my knees I was wanting pain killers sooo badly, but all I could think of was "this is almost over, it's too late for an epidural". Haha, I was pretty upset that it was too late...but luckily the pushing didn't take very long.

So here's the beginning on our story.....

On Friday afternoon I was at my moms house while Conor was singing for an event, when my water broke. No huge gush, but I was 99.9% sure it was my water. When it happened several more times, I made my way back to Conor's house (he was back by then) and we decided to go to the hospital and have it confirmed.

I'm still kind of surprised that it happened so early, but also not surprised at the same time. He waited til I was done working, and Conor was done classes and here he came!

It was confirmed at the hospital that my water had broken, so they sent me home to have a good nights sleep (yeah, right!!!) and told me to call back in the morning. When I called back they said to come in by 730am and that I would be induced; I would be a mom by the end of the day!!

Well my water has broken!

This afternoon at about 12:30 it broke, and I wasn't sure so we didn't go into the hospital until 3ish, and it was confirmed.

I haven't had any contractions yet, so I'm at moms house for the night to see what happens...otherwise I call the hospital at 7am tomorrow and they'll tell me what to do (whether they want me to come in and get induced then, wait til the afternoon, or go back for another assessment)

I'm gonna see my baby soon!!

PS Strange but true fact, today (Dec 5th) was MY due date (as in my mother's due date when she was pregnant with me)...and my Grandpa Peters Birthday :)

I can't believe there's just 3 weeks left! It's very surreal.

I just have one shift left, on Thursday, and then I'm done working! I'm kind of glad, because we've moved to Conor's families house now and it's a longer drive to get to work than the 5 minutes from my mom's house.

I think we have all the baby essentials now...we set up the crib today, although it's just going to be for storage for the first few weeks. I got a little bassinet that goes right beside the bed so that the baby is close for the first while. I've also got the babies diaper bag packed...still have to pack my hospital bag...maybe tomorrow.

I have no expectations as to whether the baby is early, on time, or late...but I want to be prepared either way. Right now, I want to have everything ready, because mentally I'm not prepared for the whole labour part!! At this point I wouldn't want the baby to be earlier than the 15th, but we'll see how we go!

35 weeks down - 5 to go!!

Happy Birthday to me!!

Well it's my 26th birthday today! I don't really feel old, but it is weird being over that 25 year mark.

I've had a nasty cold all weekend, which has sucked, but it's starting to feel better. I think it was just worse because I'm pregnant. I can't believe that there's only 5 weeks left in this pregnancy!!

It's very exciting but also scary. We have prenatal classes this Saturday...I haven't really been thinking about the whole labour part, but I guess I will have to soon!!

Lately I've been working 4 days a week between different banks, but I decided that I'm just going to take the shifts that my home bank gives me now, and then see how much longer I want to work. Physically I get tired after a full day, really tired...but mentally I don't want to be sitting at home. But that will probably change once we move to Conors families house at the end of the month.

So this weekend Conor is going over there and cleaning the carpets and then after that we can start moving stuff in. We are borrowing some things from Conors cousin like a crib and change table....and then I just found a crib mattress on craigs list as well as a playpen for really cheap...so I'm happy about that! We also have a friend who gave us TONNES of cloth diapers (Thanks Glenna!!) so I just need to get more diaper covers and that's covered. I'm also having a small shower this weekend...so after that is done I can go shopping for whatever else we need and actually get everything ready!

I think once we get into Conor's house and get everything set up, this won't feel so surreal! haha

I just realized that I'm 35 weeks pregnant AND have 35 days left to go...weird

34 weeks - 6 to go!

I just got back from my doctors office and everything looks good.

The babies heartbeat has usually been 150, last time it was 145, and this time it was 160.

Still mearsuring good - so even though I may not look big, I'm as big as I should be :)

I've been curious to know what position the baby is in, because I know it's supposed to be head down around this time, but I keep feeling something very hard and round under my right ribcage...I just assumed it was the head. Turns out it's the babys bum :) So the baby is head down, with the bum to the right, and feet sticking out to the left...kicking alot, and got me right in the rib for the first time today! haha. The other day Conor felt something slidding down my right side...so I guess that was probably an elbow. How exciting!

The office that I go to has two doctors for maternity, one male and one female (well, techincally BC doesn't have doctors who soley do maternity, but somehow these ones do), one family doctor, and then a couple doctors who come in as well. One doctor is from mission, and I've seen him twice...I've seen the female doctor twice, and now I've seen one of the other fill ins. I have yet to meet the other of two main doctors, so when I booked my next appointment and was going to be with the female doctor I asked if I can see the other doctor. They said it was funny cuz most people have all their appointments with him and ask to see the lady at least once...anyways, so now my next appointment is with the guy, so I will have met them all then.

Which, if I go into labour on Christmas Day, it won't matter at all, because all of them have Christmas Day off and I'll have someone else altogether! hehe. Right now I'm not too worried about who I have, whether it's someone I know or not...but I hear that when the time actually comes I will prefer to have a familiar face there...even if I've only met them once or twice.

Work

Well work is going well! I'm glad to have something to do, to make some money doing it, and to not have to work full time!

The plan is to work as long into the pregnancy as possible...so since I have about 7.5 weeks left, I'm hoping for at least another 5.5 weeks of work. Is that unreasonable?!?!

So lately work has been kind of slow in general...but yesterday I worked at one bank and it was SOOO busy I did over 140 transactions (usually I would average a little under 100 for a shift). Then today I was working at a branch that is usually REALLY REALLY slow on Saturdays...well I did over 160 transactions there! So it was beyond busy, especially in comparison to what it normally is.

It's good though, it makes the time go by really fast...and I'm also happy and proud to say that even after not working at the bank for over 2 years, I have balanaced within $1 EVERY SHIFT! Yay me...I think I should get a raise! hahah.

So last night when I got home I found this little guy on the bathroom mat...how did he get there???? I was going to keep him in a jar so Conor could see him when he got home, but because he's so moist, and he was on a fuzzy carpet, he had all this fuzz on him, and wasn't looking so good, so I let him go.

I was an angel for halloween (not to mention every other day of my life)...Conor made the halo!

Just over 8 weeks to go!

Well I had a doctors appointment today, so it was a reminder to put some belly pics up!

They are from yesterday and today, so 31.5 weeks.

It's funny...cuz I feel like I'm getting so much bigger...but the pictures don't really show what I see when I look down! haha. My belly button looks really funny...I guess anyones would, when you never really get a good look of the inside of the belly button! It's alot easier to keep clean now! haha

I'm starting to get that "nesting" thing really bad, but can't really do anything about it! I would love to be setting up a nursery of sorts and get everything I need, but haven't for a couple reasons:

1. We're moving into my in-laws at the end of November, so once we move in there we will get the crib and such that we are borrowing from friends all set up.
   

2. I'm cheap...I don't want to BUY what might get given to me! So I think I'm going to register at Sears and Babies'R'us and then have a baby shower. Then whatever I don't get and need before the baby is born I will go buy. Then I'll probably have a shower after the baby is born, and then buy everything else after that.

The only things I think I really NEED are: diaper bag, baby monitor, diapering stuff (already got a ton of cloth diapers from a friend - Thanks Glenna!! and I'll probably just buy a dozen or so flat ones to make up the difference). The rest is just clothes I guess.

I got this for $20 with the stroller I bought...I heard they come in handy!

Anyways my doctors appointment went well. Still measuring good. The doctor made some comment like "that baby sure is stretched out in there"...maybe that's why my belly isn't sticking out so much. I guess I have quite alot of torso room in there. I had my Glucose Tolerance Test a few weeks ago and everything came back good.

My first appointment was 7 weeks ago, the second was was 4 weeks later, then I graduated to having an appointment 3 weeks later...and now I've graduated to 2 weeks! I'm guessing I'll have one more appointment 2 weeks after that, and then have them every week for the last month! It's just going soooo fast!

We also registered for prenatal classes, for the last two Saturday's in November. Those used to include a tour of the maternity ward at the hospital, but now with the new hospital they have made an interactive tour...click here to see the slide show.

Well everything else is hunky-dory. We just have 4 Italian classes left...the class is alright...I'll post more about that later :)

People I don't like

30 weeks down, 10 to go

Wow, I'm 3/4 of the way through this pregnancy. I'm kind of mad at myself that I haven't been keeping as much of a detailed journal of the pregnancy, and taking pictures every other week as I had intended to do from week 12 on. But for the most part I feel good and therefore kind of forget that I'm pregnant sometimes!

Although now that this belly is getting bigger and the baby is getting stronger, it's getting alot harder to forget about!

Common complaints from me lately are:

• not really a complaint, but an adjustment is having to have a pillow behind my back when I'm on the couch.
• another adjustment is pretty much always sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs and kinda wedged a bit under my belly. I sleep on my back sometimes if my hips need a break, but no tummy sleeping :(
• having to burp ALL THE TIME. For the most part it's fine, but it's not so good when I throw up a little in my mouth (sorry for so much info!)
• baby kicking ribs!
• baby pressing it's head FIRMLY against my side (usually my right side, and you can see it sticking out more)
• Being hungry alot - although that comes and goes...it's doing alright right now

That's pretty much it I guess...oh, the occasional break down, full on tears and sobbing for next to no reason! haha But sometimes it feels good to cry, to let it out, even if you don't have a reason. I haven't done it anywhere except at home with Conor...so at least no embarrassing moments of breaking down in the grocery checkout!

Unbelievable!

I seriously cannot believe how stupid this weekend is already, and it's on Saturday afternoon!

So Conor was grumpy all day yesterday and just moping around the house. Then he went out and came back home and when our friends finally decided what they were doing we decided to head over to his families house (this was just after 9pm). So we stop by Tim Hortons to get a coffee and then were on our way.

We get to a four way stop, and as we start driving through the intersection the car stalls! So we had enough juice to kind of get it to the side of the road, and it will NOT start again! After millions of cars drive past and the road is finally clear, Conor pushes the car across the street to a school parking lot and we start walking to the nearest gas station...because we don't have a cell phone! The evenings are getting pretty cold here, but usually when we go to Conor's house I still just wear a little sweater and flip flops...luckily last night I had decided, last minute, to put on my big jacket and a pair of sneakers. I cannot tell you how happy I was that I did that, and that it wasn't snowing or raining or anything.

Anyways, we got to the gas station and called my mom to pick us up and then just came home. I decided we needed a cell phone!

Then today just after noon we went back to our car with moms car to see if it would start, and it wouldn't. So we called BCAA (Roadside assistant) to come and see if they could get it started. We tried starting it for him, and he could tell us right away that the timing belt had gone (which the guy at the shop had told us might happen soon....ugh, that's gonna be at least a few hundred dollars!)

After we left the car we went to the driving range for a bit, and then Conor decided to play golf, so I went to do some shopping. Mom had upgraded her cell phone last year, and she still had her old one, so I went and bought a pre-pay starter kit for it and came back home to set it all up. It all went very smoothly until it came time to record my voicemail greeting, and each time I spoke into it, it recorded nothing. Uh oh!

So after it was all set up I had mom call the phone from the landline and I went into the other room...sure enough, she couldn't hear a word I said - the mouthpiece doesn't work!!!!

I'm seriously so angry...I don't think I can transfer this starter-kit to another phone...so I'm left with $50 of airtime that I can't use...and now I have to either find someone else with a phone they will give me (that hopefully WORKS!!!) or else buy a new phone!

I hate cars, and I hate technology...and the only thing keeping me going right now is the fact that I can smell the yummy turkey in the oven!

Bring on Thanksgiving!

Up and running

So today I actually got to go on cash at the bank! And I balanced to the penny - Yay me!!

I was really annoyed because after having to wait two months to actually start working, I started officially on Oct 1st. So there are mandatory online courses about risk management and such that have to be done before you can start on cash. The first day I worked I tried to log on to the online learning site, but my employee number wasn't working, and when we called the help line, they said that it takes 72 hours for the number to be activated. So for my first day I just stood by another teller and watched...boring!


Then the second day I worked the assistant manager wasn't on until the later shift and no one knew what I was supposed to do...so I tried to get onto the e-learning site again, and it still didn't work. After I called support I found out that, because I still have my old employee number, my password should be the same as what it used to be, which I don't remember anyways, but I could have just clicked "forgot password" and answered the question on there to reset the password. Oh well.

THEN...I start doing the mandatory training and after completing 3 of the 9 required ones, I couldn't find the other 6. I then found out that the other six were under maintenance and wouldn't be available til the end of October! If I had started on the last day of Sept and logged on, I would have access to them, but since I didn't start til the first, and I wasn't even able to log on that day, they were blacked out for me. So NOW what? I'm not supposed to be able to go on cash until I have those completed. So another day goes by.

Yesterday I went into work planning on having another boring day of watching other tellers and doing the few online courses that are left available to me (which is now one, since most of the courses I completed two years ago), but then someone found some notice online saying that I just had to do this lame performance track thingy (basically just click "yes" that I know how to do basic teller procedures and know risk management) so I did that, the assistant manager assigned me a username and I got to go on cash!

Work

I will FINALLY start my job at the bank on Wednesday!!!

When I start I will have been home for 9 weeks...ugh, but I'm very much looking forward to it.

Italian

Conor and I have started a beginners Italian course.

It was quite overwhelming at first...the teacher pretty much does everything in Italian...anyways, I can now introduce myself and ask a person for their name

"Ciao, mi chiamo Jaclyn. E tu, come ti chiami?"
"Hello, my name is Jaclyn. And you, what is your name?"
(that's the informal, the formal is different, but I haven't memorized that yet!!)

Labour Day Long Weekend

Well, unlike Australia, Canada starts school in September, and every year there's a long weekend before the first day of school.

We decided that we would actually go out and do something fun for the long weekend, so on the Monday a whole bunch of us got in a couple cars and drove out to Hope to see the Othello Tunnels.

These other ones are from the next day, Conor and I took his younger brothers to UBC (University of British Columbia) to the Botanical Gardens and a Treetop Canopy walk. It was pretty cool.

I think they're favorite parts were the berries!

It was good to get out and do something....STILL waiting to start working.

100 days left!!

100 days til baby Sweeney is born (approximately)

It reminds me of the countdown I had to us coming back to Canada, and how RIDICULOUSLY fast that went by! Exciting!

Baby Stuff

I like shopping for baby stuff!! But I realized when I got home with nothing (the thing we bought we have to wait for) and no actual baby to put in these things, it was a little depressing! haha

Below is a picture of the stroller we picked out (we being my mother and I). The car seat clips right in there.

And then this is a playard that I wanna get. For many reasons that I will discuss at a later date :) we won't be buying a crib or any real baby furniture, so this is portable and has a change tray attached.

I was looking at a playard with the same fabric and pattern on it as the stroller, but the change tray didn't seem as sturdy, and it was lower than this one...which is bad for tall people...so I'll keep looking for a playard.

Yay for baby shopping...too bad it will be another 3+ months before we can use any of it!

25 weeks

Well I'm 25 weeks pregnant and FINALLY beginning to actually look like I'm pregnant! (these pics were taken at 23 weeks)

I'm still feeling fine, hunger is under control a bit better, moods go a little crazy sometimes. But I think the mood thing has more to do with the fact that I'm still not working yet, rather than pregnancy.

I had my first doctors appointment here yesterday and the doctor who I will normally see was stuck in hosiptal, so I saw a fill in doctor that is there sometimes. He was really nice, said that everything seems fine.

They took the measurements of my belly and such and all seemed good.


Next week I have to go in and have the Glucose Tolerance Test - that should be fun! haha

Anyways, other than that, everything is going well :)
