2012 recap
I always see these recap posts but then by the time I think to actually get around to it, it's already the middle (or end) of January and it just doesn't seem appropriate. So this year I'm on the ball and got it all prepared in the first couple weeks of December.
Haha - do you like that first paragraph? I have NO excuse for why I'm posting this at the end of February... just lost motivation I guess. Better late than never!

-------------------------------------------------
2012 was a big year for us - here's our year at a glance.
January: January was ALL about potty training. All 5 of the in-laws living in the house were going on holiday, so we took our chance to start potty-training without an audience! Elle turned 6 months. And we celebrated when we got to the point of a few days of no accidents with Finn.
February: February we (meaning I!) started the arduous task of applying for our visas to Australia. Having to figure out which visa to get, getting the kids passports, police checks for Italy Australia & Canada, and a silly blonde moment regarding our own passports. This month also brought a little bedtime mischief from Finn, as well as night time potty training.
March: March was a very sad month. My friend Melissa had been suffering from ALS (Lou Gerigs' Disease), she started declining and eventually succumbed to the illness. Elle and I went to Melissa's funeral - it was a great celebration of her life.
April: Finn had his first trip to the dentist, Elle cut her first 3 teeth at the same time, we posted off our Australian Visa applications, Elle had a never ending cold (might not seem like a big milestone, but you'll see what happens because of it in May)
May: A combination of previously mentioned cold, and my reaction to Elle biting while nursing, led to a hunger strike. This lead to my having to learn to pump, and eventually giving that up because it was soo much work and thus breastfeeding ended completely. We got to celebrate my brother Dan's wedding to the beautiful Amy! It was an awesome wedding (here are some pictures) The Sweeney Singers had their spring concert. And super-cop came to reside in our house.
June: In June Conor and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. Our Australian Permanent Residents Visa was granted! This was all somewhat ruined by an awful ear infection which had me deaf in one ear for over a week - thankfully it got all cleared up before the end of the month.
July: I let Conor go away on a boys golf weekend - thankfully my mom took Finn for a sleepover, so I only had to be alone with Elle for the night. We celebrated Elle's 1st Birthday! moved to Melbourne and got a house and a car (not to mention EVERYTHING needed to fill said house, mostly care of Ikea!)
August: August was all about adjusting. Adjusting to Australia, being away from family, new house, Conor going to work... just adjusting. No specific blog posts about it, but this is one of my favorites, when Finn pointed out that it was the same moon in the sky.
September: This month started with poor Elle getting a cold (JUST a cold, thankfully), finding out I was pregnant!, having a visitor and entering cloth diapering again.
October: The kids and I had our first night alone (ever) as Conor went to give a talk in Adelaide, we were dealing (and trying to change) Elle's early morning wakeups, and I had my first prenatal appointment at the hospital.
November: November is the month where things got REALLY interesting. We had our first child related ER visit with Elle (which turned into a 3 night stay), a couple days after getting out of hospital Conor flew off to Rome for 10 nights, and was successfully "Doctored", started off my 30th birthday with Elle coughing and coughing again and starting to have breathing issues, and ended the day in the middle of the night bringing Finn to a friends so Elle could have her second ER visit. Conor got home the next morning and met us in the hospital, so at the end of the month we celebrated my birthday and his doctorate.
December: On the 6th my little baby boy turned 4!!!, we always joke about people who have two parties for their kids, but I guess we kind of did with Finn. One just us and one with friends. The kids got their first ever Santa picture. Our little monkey Elle turned 17 months. Then we had a pretty awful weekend resulting in Elle's third ER visit and hospital stay. We found out that baby #3 will be a GIRL! And we ended the year with a great Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, went to the zoo the day after boxing day, and went to the beach on New Years Eve.
What a difference a year makes... and next year there will be a whole new little person in our Christmas picture.

Hot night
Yesterday for dinner we had a big family dinner at our place!
With us, the in-laws, and two of Conors cousins from New Zealand and their significant others. It worked out really well. Conors mom had biught a lamb roast earlier just because she wanted to cook some lamb, and then we found out one of Conors cousins from New Zealand was coming for his brothers (who lives in Melbourne) birthday - so we invited them all out. I don't think Conor or his parents had seen these two cousins for over 15 years - it was a good night.
But yesterday was a hot day. And last night was a hot night. And Finn wasn't feeling well at 11:30 and ended up sleeping in our bed all night (that kid is all arms and legs, all over us!). It was a pretty awful night. Other than a few snatches of sleep here and there, I didn't properly fall asleep until close to 4am. Finn started stirring around 6:30 and Elle slept until 7am (two mornings in a row!!)
Can't wait for some cooler days and nights!
*and just cuz I like adding pics to my posts, here's a silly one of Elle.

30 weeks!
Phew, 30 weeks, (likely) less than 10 to go.
Because there's just been so much focus on this whole bedrest/preterm labor stuff and having family coming and such I hadn't really thought much about labor. Also I'm so worried (part jokingly) that I won't be able to handle 3 kids!!
Then a couple of nights ago I was suddenly terrified of actually going through labor again! But I'm just to try not to think about that right now.
So with Conors parents coming tomorrow we (by we I mean I sat in the couch while Conor actually did everything) have been preparing the house. One of those things meant cleaning out the spare room (Finns room) and getting him moved back into Elle's room.
We did that all yesterday because we thought it would be good to have give them a couple nights sharing a room before they arrived. Previously we would put Elle to sleep and then Finn would just go to bed when she was asleep.
Well Elle had one of her very rare nights where she did NOT want to go to sleep and was screaming in her room for a half hour. I would have just given up and put Finn back in the spare room, but Conor read Finn his book and them brought him into the torture room (that's what it sounded like, like Elle was being tortured!). I felt so bad for Finn, I wouldn't have wanted to be in there. But after a couple minutes she calmed down and we didn't hear another peep out of either of them!
Unfortunately Elle was up really early... Finn slept a bit longer after we brought her to our room but not much. I hope she's just teething because she normally is up around 6:15 which is bad enough (especially with the baby coming), but we have had 2 mornings now of between 5 and 530!!
**I forgot to post this yesterday. Well Conor's parents flights should be landing any minute and Conor is at the airport with the kids!!
Elle went to bed much better last night, and Finn went in there before she was asleep and they both didn't make a peep after that... unfortunately Finn started coughing at 5 and it woke up Elle, and then after her bottle she had a dirty diaper and wouldn't go back to sleep... praying this is not becoming the new norm. I read to her and played with her until 6:30 and then Conor took her for a run, so Finn and I got to sleep until 8!

Hot days
Oh my goodness I am dying in this heat. So it's not the hottest, not above 40 degrees, but so far it's been about 4 days in a row of 30 plus, today being probably the hottest day.
Yesterday I had a nap, and the late afternoons are when it gets hottest... Well I woke up so hot and grumpy and the kids were both a bit grumpy too, ugh!
And there's not really an end in sight... Maybe a couple of 25-27 days (which won't cool down the house) and then back up!
I'm supposed to wear these compression socks to avoid blood clots, but I just can't do it! Yesterday and today we went to the shopping centers, I relaxed in the air con while the family did the shopping :)
Also a fast food restaurant here, Hungry Jacks, has frozen cokes on for $1... And they are HUGE! I would have one everyday (or multiple times a day) if it was a bit closer, haha!
On another note, Elle sat on the potty after bath time tonight! Haha, I don't think she did anything, but it was still cute :)
** we were talking to Elle about nursing, so now she keeps grabbing teddies and giving them nursies!

Still here :)
I'm still here and obviously not doing anything exciting.
On Friday I had another scan and the cervix is still looking pretty good. It's 2.6 without putting pressure on my uterus, but goes down to 2.2 with pressure. I had a doctors appointment after the scan (actually 2 hours later and had to wait 1.5 to see the doc - LONG MORNING!) and she's very happy.
At 30 weeks the baby's viability is the same as at term, so it's not sooo scary if I go into labor early, but we want to avoid the NICU so I'll keep doing what I'm doing.
Conors parents get here on Wednesday! (Should I warn them that Elle wakes up at 6am every morning?!? Haha). Looking forward to having them here!
They are here for 3 weeks and then my brother and his wife will be here for a bit... Then I'll be 34 weeks so I think at that point I'll start moving around more.
Yesterday I needed some things from the store, we needed groceries, and a couple things from Ikea. So we all went to the mall... We all went to Kmart and got the things off my list and then Finn and I went to the cafe and had a "special drink" while Elle and Conor went to Ikea and then they all went and got the groceries while I waited... Nice to get out if the house!

Nesting?
Am I nesting already?
I don't think I really am... I think I want to clean and tidy like crazy, but only because I can't! haha
Although I am getting anxious to pack my hospital bag. Mainly because I've never had that ready for the other kids, and I was so unprepared when I was admitted before! I've almost got all the items I need to put in the bag, I just have to actually put it in and buy a couple more things for home afterwards.
Oh and I bought a used glider (rocking chair) for $45 the other day! We got a pack-n-play with a bassinet attachment for the baby to sleep in, so that will stay packed up until baby comes, cuz it will just take a minute to set up. Other than wanting to organize the closet (we have BIG closets, with a lot of space on the top, but I want to get some containers to put seasonal clothes, kids clothes, etc in) and the babies clothes will go in one of our closets on some hanging shelves, so I want to get that all organized... otherwise there's nothing else that we really need before baby girl comes!
I have another scan and doctors appointment on Friday, if all still looks good then I will do a quick shop on Saturday. We need to get a few things to prepare for my in-laws coming (IN ONE WEEK!!) and I need a few things for me and baby, so I'll quickly do my part and then go rest at a cafe while Conor gets the rest :)
I am also going to pack a little backpack of things to bring to my doctors appointment on Friday, because I'm paranoid of getting admitted again, and Conor has a late afternoon lecture that day, so I don't want him to have to rush to bring me stuff to the hospital that night... so I'll pack enough for one night!
This evening I FINALLY got my act together and did some more work on Elle's first year photobook. I had pictures in all the way to 10 months, but her monthly comparison photos weren't fitting in the space properly and I didn't know how to fix it, so I just didn't want to touch it again! But then after doing our Christmas pictures and getting them printed and having the same problem, I realized what was wrong, so sure enough I went at it tonight and was able to fix each picture up and fill in the rest of the pictures. I just have to write some captions for some pages and fill in some details like her weights at different ages and it's done!
I also have a blog that's been in the drafts for a couple months... it's a 2012 recap, and I really had in mind to post it the last day of 2012, but that didn't happen, then I was going to finish it up in the hospital, and that didn't happen. So maybe that will be my little project tomorrow... I've got every months recap written except Dec, so it's soooo close!

Baby dream
Last night I dreamed that I had the baby. It was a very strange dream and I can only remember bits and pieces.
I had to have an emerg csection at 31 weeks, I had a male roommate (at the WOMEN'S hospital?), I went home a day after surgery, and we didn't visit the baby for 2 days.
When we got there all of the sudden I had this awful feeling because we hadnt come sooner, and I hadn't even tried expressing milk for the baby or anything!
Then there was confusion about which room the baby was in because she had been in a room with twins who had a viral infection and Conor was furious because she could have gotten sick.
Conor and Finn disappeared somewhere (I don't know where Elle was in my dream), and when I found him they were in a room and Finn was holding a baby and Conor was helping him... I got very excited because I was finally going to get to see my baby. But then I saw all these strangers in the room and got confused and when I went in I realized the baby was Mexican and got angry at Conor because I wanted to see our baby!!
We finally located our baby, took her out if her cot, down the hall, past our family (A LOT of our family, and some friends from when I was younger, very strange) and went to a private room so I could nurse her.
When she latched on right away I got very confused because she was born so early, she shouldn't have been able to breast feed - and then I started wondering why she was in a regular nursery with no tubes or anything instead of NICU. After I nursed her I poked my head out of the room to talk to Conor and finally my mom noticed I was holding the baby so she came over and I suddenly realized that baby had the thickest curliest hair. It was so cute, I couldn't stop running my fingers through it.
Anyways, finally found Conor and we decided to go back to the baby's room and find a nurse because we were so confused... She also started feeling really heavy so I have her to Conor and we decided she must be at least 7 pounds and how was that possible. I also realized she was wearing a very pretty dress... and then a thought hit me - our baby had been swapped with someone else's....
Then I woke up. Lets pray that I don't experience ANYTHING like that on real life, thank you very much!

Home vs Hospital
I'm so happy to be home! If I had a roommate I wasn't too lonely at the hospital, but it seemed as soon as my roommate would be discharged I would just get this intense feeling of loneliness. I loved it when Conor would visit with the kids, but again, as soon as they would leave the loneliness would come back. So yes, I am very happy to be home.
It's going to be an adjustment for us all though!
At the hospital there was just nothing I *could* do, so I really didn't mind the bedrest (although would have loved a little leeway to take even one walk a day to get fresh air), but here at home I just feel lazy! Haha, and a bit guilty because I can't help Conor with anything. But he's doing amazing... I'm a bit OCD when it comes to tidying up little bits and pieces, and I don't expect Conor to do all that because I know it doesn't bother him and he's taking care off all the necessities on his own plus more, so it's sometimes hard for me to not want to get off the bed or the couch to just put this or that away, but I'll have to get used to it!!
The kids are happy to have me home too. The day I was discharged we had arranged previously for Conor to pic up something off gumtree (like Craigslist) so we just went right from the hospital to the pick up. Then it was almost 6pm, I was starving (I had been getting my dinners at 520pm!!) and the kids were going crazy, so we decided to go to McDonald's. Finn would eat a couple fries and the get off his chair to give me a hug or a kiss! At bedtime I assured Finn that I would be here still in the morning, but when they got up and did their usual routine I think both Finn and Elle forgot that I was here! When I got up to use the toilet Elle saw me and her eyes got really big and she ran to me and gave me a huge hug! I almost cried, it was so sweet.
If I'm on the couch Finn just pretty much stays on the couch with me the whole time!
Conor had been invited to some friends for dinner yesterday so I crashed the party :) and today we went to church. I couldn't really help with Elle, but at least I was a distraction for Finn so he was pretty got and sat with me until after communion.
Now I'll lay low, I have my glucose blood tests on Wednesday but otherwise I'll just stay home in my bed :)

Going home!!
I know I said that I was nervous about going home, and I am a little, I am happy to say that I'm being discharged today!!
Mainly I'm not too nervous because they wouldn't send me home if they didn't think I was doing really well and that there was nothing to worry about.
With the placenta previa being gone and the cervix now at 24mm, I'm really considered all normal. The doctor said a lot of normal women at 24mm are walking around out there with no bedrest or anything... Having said that, because of my history of the shortened cervix I will still be on moderate bedrest at home to make sure it doesn't get short again. But otherwise we can breathe a bit easier!
So thank you all for your prayers again - and pray that we all transition well with me at home!

Ultrasound scan results
So yesterday I had another scan - and it went really really really well!!
First, we've been monitoring the placement of the placenta. When the placenta is too close to the cervix it's called placenta previa - so they like it to be I think 20mm away from the cervix, and at my last scan it was 18mm away, so really just borderline. As the uterus expands up it pulls the placenta with it, so the doctors have been quite positive that it would move by the time I got to term - but with the possibility of preterm delivery I really just wanted it out of the way as soon as possible. Placenta previa means you HAVE to have a csection - at least here - because you run the risk of bleeding out if you delivery naturally. I DO NOT want a csection.
Anyways, the doctor had asked me to remind the ultrasound tech to check the placenta and so she started looking for it, and asked me if it was in the front of the back - I took this as a good sign, if she couldn't see it right away that means it's out of the way - when she finally found it it was 40mm away! So very very good news there - no more worries about that :)
Then the main reason for my bedrest, the cervix. When I was admitted it was 16mm and went up to 22mm two weeks ago at my last scan - now it's 24mm!! It got even longer, which is great. And while 30mm is ideal, they really don't see 24mm as THAT short.
So now the doctors had their meeting this morning, and I'm just waiting to hear about what they are going to do with me. Either way I won't be discharged before I'm 28 weeks (which I am on Tuesday), and unless something else changed, I don't think they would keep me past 30 weeks, because they know Conor's parents are coming and that I wanna be home to see them.
So there you go - not sure yet, but either way there's an end in sight!
